Proxy collecting and testing with charon.

This is a simple tutorial written just to get you started so you can learn the application for yourself and tune it to your needs.

charon is a proxy suite it can test various types of proxies.

first you will need to download charon it is available here

there is no need to install just download it and extract the files from the zip to where ever you want.
now lets get to setting up the program for what we need (there are many options these are just the settings i use, you may tailor them to your needs)
open the program and select general options from the left

in the popup make sure you have ticked (and nothing else):
check ip before starting the test
check validity of proxy judge before test
resolve proxies to IP upon loading
save proxy list on exiting
click ok
select connect options from the left
connect options

in the popup make sure you have ticked (and nothing else):
use external judge(s)
(this setting depends on your connection i am setting this for what an average dsl user would have if you have dialup or something faster adjust accordingly)
threads [30] timeout [10] retry timeouts/dead [0]
check proxies for http
resolve proxies to hostname
(NOTHING ELSE NEEDS TO BE CHECKED IN THIS SECTION FOR OUR NEEDS)
select judge options from the left
judge options

in the new popup:
there will be a judge in the top section (judges selected to use) right click that judge and move to unused section
click the "test judges" button
select the judge with the lowest ping by right clicking it and selecting "move judge to the selected list"
load your proxy list in to charon:
save your proxies in a text file the format needs to be ip:port like 218.128.240.113:8080
in the upper right hand corner click the "folder" icon
select your text file with the proxies in it
test your proxies:

click the "filter list" button on the left hand side and select filter dodgy duplicates and gateways
now click "check proxies" on the left hand side and select check anonymity of all proxies
wait for the test to complete:
click the "filter list" button on the left hand side and select filter dodgy duplicates and gateways
click the "filter list" button on the left hand side and select delete Non-anon
click the "floppy disk" icon in the upper left hand corner and save your proxies to a new text file
your proxies are now ready to be tested against a site in sentry (or whatever)
